Spread some joy.
The Anonymous Bunny Collective: Origin
I have suffered from depression since I was a child. I had some traumatic experiences with mental health professionals and medications as a teenager and it took about twenty years to be able to trust someone to help me. As part of my recovery, my counselor has encouraged me to develop new hobbies that stimulate my mind, rather than vegetating and ruminating constantly. 3D printing had been an interest of mine since I was a teen and, with the help of a coworker, has become a passion of mine. The bunny model was included with my first printer and I use it to test new filaments. I started printing batches to give away, just because they make me smile.
The name, if I recall correctly, was a joke I made to my counselor and it stuck in my head. It’s a bit mysterious, in a conspiracy theory kind of way. Like it’s a huge underground organization. Who are these people and why are they obsessed with plastic bunnies? Conspiracy theories make me laugh because they’re so ridiculous, so a conspiracy theory about bunnies is even more comical to me.
Relax, folks. It’s nothing nefarious or political. It’s not a movement, yet. It’s just my effort to spread a little joy in the world.
If you, like myself, are suffering from long term depression, there is hope. It’s not easy. It can be expensive, financially and emotionally. It takes work to overcome the demons. You may have to cut ties with your faith, community, or family. It’s not a quick fix, it’s a journey. Please, find someone you can talk to, that’s the first step.
